Safe? Yes.
But it depends on your prescription whether it is right for you.
I just had it done (I am 45). I was nearsighted with astigmatism, so I saw double and triple of things on top of each other, but didn’t have bad vision otherwise. My "prescription" was only 20/50. Be sure to ask the doctor LOTS of questions. There was NO pain of any kind, during or after surgery.
For instance — I didn’t know (and the doctors DID NOT tell me before surgery) that getting LASIK will improve your distance vision and "prescription", but TAKE YOUR CLOSE VISION AWAY FOREVER if you get both eyes done. I now can not see ANYTHING less than 18 inches from my face… not my computer screen, my face in the mirror, my fingernails right in front of my face… NOTHING, without WEARING READING GLASSES. I could have avoided this fate by only getting one eye done, called Monovision, but they didn’t bother to tell me that, either.
They completely failed at INFORMED CONSENT.
I want to sue, but none of the lawyers I have talked to so far will take my case, because they don’t think they can get any money.
Bottom line… they are your eyes, and if the doctor screws them up, there’s no going back and fixing them. I now will probably end up having to get a whole different eye surgery done to give me back my close vision, called IOL, which puts implanted lenses into one’s eyes (ie implanted reading glasses). If that doesn’t work, I’m legally blind for life.
Good luck.

No surgery is completely safe, but lasek isn’t that dangerous. I wouldn’t get it if I had a choice - just wear contacts, lasek isn’t as effective as they want you to believe
