Can Lasik surgery cause cataracts or astigmatism?

I had lasik about 2 years ago. It was great for about 6 weeks then starting degressing. I told the doctor and he kept saying wait….now he says I can’t get the lasik redone, I have the start of a cataract and asigmatisim. Never had either of those before. Can lasik cause those?

1.Laser will never cause cataract .It is probably that you may already had an existing cataract which has became more pronounced hence the deterioration of vision.

2.If your power were to be high before Lasik surgery, there is a slight change- some degree of short/longsightedness or astigmatism may regress. You may be suitable for enhancement, but individual does vary.

LASIK sursgery involves the cornea so I don’t think it has anything to do with cataracts which are diseases of the lens itself. Astigmatism involves focusing problems associated with defects in the cornea so i guess a problem during LASIK surgery could theoretically cause astigmatism

How old are you? LASIK will not prevent normal aging, and if you are old enough to be getting cataracts, it had nothing to do with the surgery.
